New Miami Dolphins coach Joe Philbin is in the process of interviewing candidates to join his first coaching staff, and the process is moving quickly. It appears at least two of Tony Sparano’s former coaches have a good shot of being retained. Nothing has been finalized, but special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi, who gained league-wide respect for the improvement the Dolphins’ special teams unit made in 2011, could remain in that role moving forward. And defensive line coach Kacy Rodgers, who is one of the most respected line coaches in the NFL, might also be asked to remain with the Dolphins. Both coaches come highly recommended by General Manager Jeff Ireland based on their performance, but Philbin has final say on all football decisions when it comes to his staff. It’s early in the process, but Rizzi and Rodgers are well respected in their field, and would be assets to any staff they joined. Rodgers’ unit has been one of the NFL’s top five run stuff...

Jeff Ireland: “We need a quarterback that can get us over the hump”

It’s probably the worst kept secret in the NFL. The Miami Dolphins have a solid foundation, a decent core of players, but are missing the engine. Dolphins Paul Soliai Selected for Pro Bowl

Miami Dolphins behemoth Nose Tackle Paul Soliai will replace Vince Wilfork of the Patriots in this Sunday’s NFL Pro Bowl.  Wilfork is unable to participate in the game as the Patriots have advanced to the Super Bowl.  Soliai probably just earned a little bit more money in his pending free agency negotiations.  The Dolphins used the Franchise [...]

NFL Great Mark Duper Diagnosed With Cancer After Feeling Pain During Cancer Fundraiser

I have always been a firm believer that if you do good things, good things will happen to you. What happened to Mark Duper just reinforces that belief. Duper, a Miami Dolphins legend and favorite target (along with fellow “Marks Brother” Mark Clayton) of Dan Marino, was participating in the Dolphins Cycling Challenge, a 150 mile bike ride to raise money for the Sylvester...

What is the west coast offense these days?

When asked about the style of offense the Miami Dolphins would use moving forward new coach Joe Philbin joked he doesn’t even know what the west coast offense is during his introductory press conference. Or maybe Philbin wasn’t joking because when I asked Redskins coach Mike Shanahan, who has supposedly used the west coast offense and concepts since his Denver days, to...

A source told Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald today that acquiring the longtime Colts QB is “the priority” for the Dolphins, who rumor has it have also expressed interest in Packers backup Matt Flynn.
