Tyler Scott has chance to emerge in Bears-Vikings matchup
USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Bears have released their first injury report of the week following Wednesday's practice, leading up to their Week 6 game against the Minnesota Vikings.

A surprising name was listed among the group of players who did not practice, and that player might be in jeopardy of missing the game between two NFC North rivals.

Wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown was held out of the first day of practice with a hamstring injury, which we all know could tend to linger on for multiple days. If the injury continues to cause St. Brown to miss practice throughout the week, rookie wide receiver Tyler Scott could be in line for a higher snap count on offense this weekend.

Here's how the rest of the team's injury report looked after the first day of practice:

The Bears have been struggling all season to find a competent and consistent option at wide receiver to take some pressure away from D.J. Moore. Darnell Mooney hasn't been that guy so far, and the team has already gotten rid of Chase Claypool, who definitely didn't cut it.

The Claypool trade was expected to open the door for St. Brown to carve a role for himself in the Bears offense, a move that quarterback Justin Fields has requested since the start of the season. However, in the past two weeks since finally being on the active roster, St. Brown has only recorded one catch for 21 yards.

In Week 5 against the Commanders, St. Brown was only targeted one time and failed to record a reception. In fact, not a single wide receiver, not named D.J. Moore, caught a pass the entire night.

The outcome obviously worked that night, with the Bears coming out on top for the first time all season. But, after Moore's massive game, opposing defenses are going to hone in on limiting him more than ever. To create a proactive approach, the Bears need to find another weapon to utilize at the position, and Scott might be that guy.

Scott has received some limited offensive work throughout the first five games of his rookie campaign, hauling in three receptions for 20 yards. Scott also added two carries for 19 yards in Week 4's loss to the Denver Broncos.

Scott has the ability to be use in a variety of ways in the Bears offense if the team actually game plans some touches his way. The team manufactured some easy touches for Scott against the Broncos and moved him all over the line of scrimmage, but he was hardly ever one of the primary reads on the play.

The Bears didn't burn a fourth-round pick on Scott just to used him on special teams, and with St. Brown potentially missing time this weekend, there might not be a better chance to see what the rookie can do on offense than Sunday against the Vikings.
