The Oakland Raiders parted ways with last year’s starting quarterback Carson Palmer in a trade with the Arizona Cardinals. Palmer showed toughness and resiliency last season, but his decision making cost the Raiders in several games. To start fresh, Oakland brought in Matt Flynn via trade and drafted Tyler Wilson in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL Draft. Raiders’ general manager Reggie McKenzie said Flynn would begin the offseason workout schedule as the starter. Terrelle Pryor is scheduled to be the back-up with Wilson the three. Because Flynn and Pryor lack significant starting experience, the competition will be open. Flynn has only two career starts, both with the Green Bay Packers in mop up duty and Pryor started last season’s finale. With the addition of Wilson, who amassed video game numbers during his junior year at Arkansas, the Raiders quarterback race is wide open.
