Former New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora agreed to a 2-year deal with the Falcons, FOXSports.com has learned.
The 31-year-old Umenyiora had six sacks for the Giants in 2012.
Umenyiora, who spent the first nine years of his career with the Giants, was part of two Super Bowl-winning teams in New York. The two-time Pro Bowler has 75 career sacks.
On March 1, the Falcons released John Abraham, 34, who led the team with 10 sacks in 2012.
With the 31-year-old Umenyiora, the Falcons have a slightly younger replacement at defensive end. Umenyiora had only six sacks for the Giants in 2012. He had a career-high 14 1/2 sacks in 2005, but has reached double figures in only one of the last four years -- 11 1/2 in 2010.
Terms of the deal weren't released.
