GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Undrafted rookie safety Sean Richardson has made the Packers' final 53-man roster."It's a great moment," Richardson said Friday in a phone interview. "It's a blessing. When I first heard the news, it wasn't from a coach. But as the day went on, all the coaches started congratulating me. It was great."Richardson outperformed several other safeties throughout Green Bay's training camp, using his 6-foot-2 size to become a solid presence on defense."Hard work and dedication is finally paying off," Richardson said. "It's not over. My journey is still going. It's just another step to me continuing to get better and improve. This is just a stepping stone."After not being drafted out of Vanderbilt, Richardson said that 50 percent of the teams who tried to sign him wanted to play him at linebacker, but he wanted to play safety. Knowing the Packers were thin at safety following the release of three-time Pro Bowler Nick Collins, general manager Ted Thompson told Richardson that Green Bay wanted him at safety. In recent weeks, Richardson continued getting more playing time with the starters and second-string defense. In Thursday night's preseason finale, Richardson entered the game on the first drive and immediately made a play in the backfield for a tackle-for-loss. "I'm very consistent," Richardson said. "I continued to improve day in and day out. From game to game, I continued to improve, mainly with my consistency and how I approach the game with a lot of energy and passion."One of the safeties Richardson beat out is Anthony Levine, who spent the last two seasons on the Packers' practice squad.Levine's agent, Howard Shatsky, posted on Twitter Friday that Levine had been released."There's a good chance he will not clear waivers," Shatsky tweeted regarding his client. "There is already interest from several NFL teams in S Anthony Levine." Follow Paul Imig on Twitter.
