(Image from Bleacher Report) Preseason games are useful, but the Tampa Buccaneers probably wish their recovering stars were getting more use out of them. Week 3 of the preseason will begin with Darrelle Revis, Carl Nicks, Davin Joseph and Lawrence Tynes still on the “proceed with caution” list. Darrelle Revis: Darrelle Revis’ recovery is going well, but as Tampa Bay Times writer Rick Stroud explains, no one really knows what the timetable of “going well” is in terms of a return date. Revis will most likely begin the week in full participation for the first time. If there are no complications, his practice participations will increase. At the moment, there are no signs that say Revis won’t be ready for regular season Week 1, in fact, some are saying that baring a setback, he could play this week versus the Dolphins. However, head coach Greg Schiano doesn’t see the preseason as a necessary goal for Revis to push for; Week 1 is what matters. He’s coming off a knee injury. He’s never had that. So if we’re going to err at all, we’re going to err on the side of caution. He’s doing more and more, but I think you don’t want to put the cart before the horse on that thing. - Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach, Greg Schiano Carl Nicks: Nicks fully expected to make his debut on Friday versus New England only to be scratched 90 minutes before the game. The team said that Nicks had done enough work in practices earlier in the week to give him the game off. With a move like this, Tampa seems to be showing they don’t care about veterans playing in these exhibition games — they already know what they have in those guys. Nicks is expected to start this week versus Miami, and though we’ve been fooled before, don’t expect them to pull him from this one. (This mentality could tell the tale for Josh Freeman, as the team might not give him enough snaps to ease fan’s worries about Freeman’s preseason struggles.) Davin Joseph: Joseph said himself he was 99.9 percent healthy when the preseason began but sat out the first few weeks for precautionary reasons. His timetable remains to be parallel with Carl Nicks, but I would suspect Nicks to play before Joseph. There’s really no reason to play these guys before the season opener as long as they’re performing well in practice, but if Joseph is going to play at all, it’ll be this week. Lawrence Tynes: The Bucs have yet to see their veteran fill-in kicker as he’s still nursing a toe injury, but Derek Dimke is making sure Tampa doesn’t rush him back. The 23-year-old kicker is performing well in Tynes absence.
