Vernon Davis of the San Francisco 49ers scored a great touchdown against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, however his celebration left a little to be desired. As many NFL players do when they score, they dunk the football over the crossbar of the field goal post. Vernon tried to do it, however he was rejected at the rim.

One of the best trends of the last decade or so in the NFL is the increasing number of college basketball players that have been converted to tight ends. It started with Tony Gonzalez, then Antonio Gates, now Jimmy Graham from the Saints. Right in the middle of the athletic basketball playing tight end explosion, there was San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis.
Thanks to our friends at CosbySweaters.com we have this wonderful footage of 49ers tight end Vernon Davis attempting to dunk a football after scoring a touchdown.
After the ball clunked off of the cross bar and went forward, David Akers tied the NFL record for the longest field goal at 63 yards. His reaction was priceless, as was those of his teammates. Not only did they act like he helped them win the Super Bowl, but he looked completely shocked. The video is below:

GREEN BAY, Wis. – On a normal day David Akers tying an NFL record on a 63-yard field goal would have been the lead story from a regular season game.
But when his team the San Francisco 49ers serves up a very confident win over the NFC’s team to beat, his accomplishment becomes one piece of a very large pie.
From the first tick off the game clock, Green Bay was snuffed out in...
The Lambeau Field crowd watched as San Francisco 49ers kicker David Akers made a record-tying 63-yard field goal as seconds ticked away at the end of the first half.
Jim Harbaugh would love it if his postgame handshake with Detroit coach Jim Schwartz last season were ancient history 11 months later.
If only. Not this week. Not with two unbeaten NFC powers set to face off in prime time Sunday night, when the Lions visit the reigning NFC West champion San Francisco 49ers at Candlestick Park.
Harbaugh refers to it as a ''mini controversy...
(Eds: Updates. With AP Photos.) By JANIE McCAULEY AP Sports Writer The San Francisco 49ers showed all the same poise and big playmaking ability - not to mention dominant defense against NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers - in a season-opening statement victory at Green Bay as they did in coming so close to a Super Bowl last season.
Who said the reigning NFC West champions couldn't do it...
This past weekend we mentioned that Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers will have to wear an Alex Smith jersey for an entire week if they lost to the 49ers on Sunday. Well as we all know Green Bay did in fact lose to San Francisco.
Rodgers made the bet with Nathan Morris of Boyz II Men since he’s a 49ers fan and some friends of Rodgers’ asked him to do the...
Which way does the thumb turn for the 49ers after their momentous 30-22 victory over the Green Bay Packers to open the season, including a “miracle” field goal by David Akers, a coltish Frank Gore, a battling but bloodied Joe Staley, Alex Smith on his A game, a vintage defensive performance, Randy Moss in the clear, a Colin Kaepernick cameo, Vernon Davis’ TD rejection and much...

Better than last year?
The San Francisco Defense. Okay, fine. The San Francisco 49ers might just have the best defense in the NFL. Blah. It kills me to say that. Not because I despise the other teams in the NFC West, but before, the 49ers could have a good-to-great...
GREEN BAY, Wis. -- It was a strong statement from a team on a quest to prove its conference supremacy.Eight months after the Green Bay Packers and San Francisco 49ers were on course to meet for a trip to the 2011 NFC championship, the 49ers held off a furious comeback for a 30-22 victory on Sunday afternoon at Lambeau Field.
