Outside linebacker Clark Haggans, a 12-year NFL veteran, is among 18 players released by the Arizona Cardinals as the team reached the NFL's 53-man roster limit.
The Cardinals also placed quarterback Rich Bartel on injured reserve, ending his season. Bartel injured a shoulder in Arizona's preseason finale against Denver on Thursday night.
Among the other players released are defensive end Ronald Talley, wide receiver DeMarco Sampson, running back Alfonso Smith, linebacker Quan Sturdivant, offensive tackle D.J. Young and tight end Steve Skelton, whose older brother John was picked to be the Cardinals' starting quarterback earlier in the day.
Young had a brief try at left tackle following the season-ending injury to Levi Brown, but struggled in a game against Tennessee.
