Making bold moves in the NFL takes courage. Whether it’s deciding to send an all out blitz on 3rd and long when you need a stop or it’s putting all your trust into a specific player that you feel can help your franchise win, it’s the bold moves that make or break a team. The Denver Broncos and the Washington Redskins were two teams who made bold moves this offseason and if week 1 is any indication, the moves by both teams will be validated in the 2012 NFL season.

Although he’s one of the best quarterbacks that’s ever played the game, the Broncos decision to pick up Peyton Manning this offseason was a bold move. The Broncos had come off an 8-8 season in 2011 where Tim Tebow helped them grab a victory in the 1st round of the playoffs, but that simply wasn’t enough for the Broncos. They knew that they needed a difference maker at the QB position so they decided to take a chance on Manning. Manning came through with flying colors last night as he lead the Broncos to a 31-19 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers throwing for 253 yds and 2 tds.

Instead of making a big free agent pickup like the Broncos, the Redskins decided to give up three first round draft picks and one second round draft pick to move up four spots in the 2012 NFL Draft to select Robert Griffin III with the 2nd overall selection. It was a huge cost for the Redskins, but they believed that RG3 would be a franchise QB in the NFL that they could build a team around. Yesterday against the New Orleans Saints, RG3 showed that he has the arm and the moves to be a lethal threat behind center. He had by far the best night of all the rookie QB’s as he threw for 320 yds and 2 tds to go along with his 42 rushing yds.
