Saints RB Pierre Thomas still had some of that Christmas spirit in him on Monday night against the Falcons.  Thomas scored on a 4-yard scamper during first quarter action to put New Orleans up 7-3, then decided to play Santa Claus by putting a bow on the ball and giving it to a fan in the end zone.  That fan ended up being his own mother, so she ended up receiving two gifts on the night—her son’s touchdown, and the ball he scored it with.

Ain’t that sweet?

Thomas’ celebration didn’t go unnoticed by the officials either, as they flagged the Saints back for unsportsmanlike conduct because he used the ball as a prop.  Granted, pulling a bow from your pants, then taking the time to peel off that annoying covering to expose the sticky part before handing the ball to your mom is a bit time consuming for a TD celebration, but that doesn’t mean the refs couldn’t’ have let it go without throwing the flag, in the spirit of the season and all.

Rules are rules are rules, I guess.

Video of Thomas’ gift giving follows the jump…

Like I said, a sweet gesture from a son to his mother on the day following Christmas.  But my question is, if that is indeed Thomas’ mom, why is she wearing a Vilma jersey, and not one with her son’s name on it?  Anyone else find that odd?  Anyone at all?
