According to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, the Texans will likely not place the franchise tag on linebacker Mario Williams since it would account for $23 million against the cap. The Texans can afford to have that much money on their payroll.
McClain believes that the Texans will likely get a deal done with Williams as they get closer to the beginning of the league year...

On Tuesday, we questioned whether or not Texans linebacker Mario Williams is done in Houston, since he’ll be a free agent this offseason.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Texans want Williams back in Houston for next season.
I would think that if the Texans aren’t able to work out a long-term deal with Williams and his agent, they’ll likely place the franchise...
