The Minnesota Vikings released safety Madieu Williams and two other players in cost-cutting moves on Thursday.
The team also cut ties with defensive tackle Jimmy Kennedy and wide receiver Freddie Brown.
The Vikings had high hopes for Williams when they gave him a six-year, $33 million deal in 2008. But he had trouble living up to the deal, which was one of the highest for a safety in league history.
Williams finished with 75 tackles and one interception last season.
