The Minnesota Vikings have had a bit of a tumultuous off-season when it has come to the wide receiver position. The team is looking at significant roster turn over for their pass catchers, as they've seen the likes of Percy Harvin traded to Seattle, Michael Jenkins leave via free agency for the Patriots, and receiving staple Devin Aromosahdu depart this off-season as well. The team has made some moves to counter-act these events, namely by signing Jerome Simpson to another one-year contract and former Packers receiver Greg Jennings to a high profile deal, but many fans feel like it just hasn't quite been enough. And so the Vikings have responded. They've announced recently that they'll look to move former back-up quarterback Joe Webb to wide receiver. But will it be enough? Will it be the next step in the team's efforts to make the receiving position the worst in football? Clearly that is the Minnesota Vikings plan for the 2013 season. The team finished the worst in the National Football League in 2012 in total receiving yards, wracking up an impressively awful 2,935 total receiving yards on the year. That put them only two yards worse than the Kansas City Chiefs, however, and they clearly felt the pressure coming from other teams looking to creep into the cellar in the passing game, so they made some moves. By trading Percy Harvin the team was able to subtract those valuable "yards after catch" that may inflate the teams yardage. They also assured themselves plenty of missed opportunities by re-signing Jerome Simpson, notable pass dropping receiver, and Greg Jennings, an obvious injury concern. Will he even be able to play an entire year? Likely not, meaning the receiving opportunities will plummet, as will their yardage. But the 32nd spot in receiving rankings wouldn't automatically be sewn up, and so the Vikings will look to move Joe Webb back to receiver. What better way to put up the facade of "trying" with the fan base, while also securing such awful production at a position? Insiders have told Purple Jesus Diaries that the Vikings were so enamored with how disappointing Joe Webb was with his playoff opportunity at quarterback last season, that given the same opportunity at a new position, playing a new role, running new routes he hasn't practiced in his now four years as a pro, will most definitely attribute to an atrocious passing game for the Vikings this season. Is it all some crazy, master plan? Are the Vikings just feigning interest in receivers and the passing game so that when these horrible - yet brilliant - laid plans ultimately fail they'll be able to lean heavy on Adrian Peterson again so he can finally break the single season rushing record? If so, this team may be more savvy than anyone has ever expected, and may just end up being a force for stupid in the 2013 NFL season. [follow]
