Fox Sports North:
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. One of the Minnesota Vikings' defensive leaders could be out through next week's mandatory veteran minicamp.
Linebacker Chad Greenway has missed the majority of voluntary organized team activities the past three weeks while dealing with a family matter, and coach Leslie Frazier said Greenway's absence could stretch into next week's mandatory three-day minicamp.
"I talked with him just a few days ago," Frazier said at Tuesday's open portion of OTAs. "I don't know if we'll have him back for mandatory minicamp. His family situation is something he's dealing with. We may or may not have him back for that. But it's understandable what he's experiencing."
Frazier said Greenway would be excused from minicamp if he still needed to attend to the still undisclosed issue.
Greenway missed the first week of OTAs before returning for the Tuesday practice session last week. Greenway then called Frazier at 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday and said he had to leave again to tend to be with his family. Speaking on KFAN radio that day, Greenway said he has returned home to South Dakota.
"We're just going through a tough time with my family," Greenway said on the air, adding he hoped to return to Minnesota for minicamp.
Greenway signed a five-year contract extension last fall and is one of the veteran leaders on a Vikings' defense that has had significant turnover during the offseason. He earned a trip to his first Pro Bowl after last season.
