In speaking with a small group of reporters, Minnesota
Vikings general manager Rick Spielman said the team has “no intent” of trading
wide receiver Percy Harvin, according to The Pioneer Press.
Spielman added that he expects Harvin to be in camp like the
rest of the other Vikings’ players.
This of course could simply be posturing. There are now two
documented blowups between Harvin and Vikings’ coaches, Leslie Frazier and Brad
Childress. Also, the dynamic wide receiver has said that he’ll holdout this season if he doesn’t receive a new contract. He’s thought to want to be paid like the elite receivers in the NFL, which would be an average annual salary north of
Spielman and the Vikings are unlikely to get much value for
Harvin if other teams believe they want to part ways with the wide receiver.
For this reason, Minnesota is likely to keep expressing desire to retain Harvin
even if they truly want to ship him out of town.
