Antoine Winfield’s second major injury of the season landed the veteran CB on IR, but the roster hole left by Winfield’s departure wasn’t open for long. On Wednesday morning the Vikings hastily worked out former Dolphin Benny Sapp, and by noon the team was ready to announce that Sapp had passed his physical and been signed to a contract.Of course we all remember Sapp’s first tenure with the Vikings when, filling in for Antoine Winfield during his 2009 absence with a foot injury, Sapp proved himself to be an able coverage guy. Sapp was traded before the 2010 season to the Dolphins in exchange for Greg Camarillo, a move the Vikings probably ended up regretting given their later secondary issues. Benny’s stint in Miami ended abruptly in early 2011 after he got burned by Tom Brady and Wes Welker for a 99-yard touchdown.It remains to be seen what role Sapp will fill on the team but given his experience and familiarity with the Vikings offense – and given Cedric Griffin’s well-documented ...
