The Minnesota Vikings have signed center John Sullivan to a five-year extension.
The deal ensures that the team will have the tandem of Sullivan and quarterback Christian Ponder in place for the immediate future. Sullivan was a sixth-round draft choice in 2008. He took over as the starting center in 2009.
Sullivan struggled last season with various leg injuries and overcoming the death of his father, but has emerged as a reliable and capable leader in the middle of the offensive line this season.
Sullivan says he is grateful for the Vikings for sticking with him through last year's struggles and is looking forward to working with Ponder to turn the team around.
The Vikings are 2-11 heading into their game Sunday against New Orleans.
