It is now official, Matt Cassel will start at quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday vs. the Steelers. All week we have heard rumblings that this could very well happen. Ponder suffered a rib injury in last weeks loss against the Browns but managed to finish the game. Many questions will arise if this was an easy out for the Vikings to make a switch at a position that has been questioned all year. It will be very interesting to see how the Vikings offense rallies around the veteran back-up quarterback. Cassel has a better arm and more experience but his last year in Kansas City was nothing to get excited about.
If Cassel does come out and open some eyes don’t be surprised to see him get the nod for additional weeks, if he comes out and bombs … well the Vikings coaching staff will be able to trot number 7 back on the field without much backlash. It is a win-win for an 0-3 team.
