Vikings waive Pat Elflein after activation from injured reserve

Minnesota Vikings guard Pat Elflein returned from injured reserve this week, but his time with the organization has reportedly come to an end.

The Vikings released Elflein on Saturday, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Minnesota will now rely on second-round pick Ezra Cleveland moving forward.

Elflein was a 2017 third-round selection made by the Vikings. He became the starting center as a rookie and was injured in the NFC Championship Game, suffering a broken ankle.

In 2019, Elflein was moved to left guard after the team drafted center Garrett Bradbury in the first round. He was moved again in 2020 to right guard.

Elflein was in the final year of his rookie contract.
