The NFL named Minnesota Vikings kicker Blair Walsh its NFC Special Teams Player of the Week on Wednesday for the rookie's five-field goal performance against the St. Louis Rams in Week 15. He is only the third rookie in Vikings history to win Player of the Week awards more than once in a season, joining Adrian Peterson and Randy Moss on that list after his Week 1 award for his performance against Jacksonville. Walsh, a sixth-round draft pick from Georgia, was perfect on the day, converting all five field-goal opportunities from 50, 38, 42, 53, and 51 yards in the 36-22 victory. He tied the NFL record for most field goals from 50-plus yards made in a game and set a new Vikings record. Walsh also improved to 8-for-8 from 50-plus yards this season, setting another Vikings record and tying the NFL record. The award adds to Walsh's already impressive season. He holds the Vikings' record for points scored by a rookie with 117, passing up Randy Moss' 106-point season in 1998. He is third in the NFL in field goals made with 29 and a perfect 28-for-28 on extra points. His 47 touchbacks are also a franchise high and rank fourth in the NFL. Walsh is tied with Fuad Reveiz and Ryan Longwell for second all-time in Vikings history with two Special Teams Player of the Week nods, trailing only Gary Anderson's four awards.
