NFL analyst Warren Sapp issued this apology to the Chicago Tribune for using the word “retard,” when he bashed Chicago Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall on a national radio show.
“I want to apologize to all those who I offended with my poor choice of words,” Sapp said. “I certainly meant no disrespect to those who have some type of disability or special needs.”
Marshall, who was traded to the Bears in March, was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder last year. It’s a mental illness that’s characterized by impulsive behavior and uncontrolled emotions.
