Was It Andy Reid's Arrogance, Or His Ignorance....

Andy Reid lost the Eagles game this past Sunday. This is a statement of fact. How he lost it though, is up for debate. Let's delve shall we? First off, if he thought that DMac was too injured to run a QB sneak during the game(as he has suggested), I think "Sir Andy" should have been prepared for this. Now, maybe this is a stretch but, work with me on this one. If I am Andy Reid, I am telling Donovan, if we get it down to the goal line on this drive, I want you to fake an injury and call a time out. Then, I would precede to warm up Kevin Kolb on the sidelines and go through the whole song and dance as DMac gets tended to by the staff over his "phantom injury". Kevin Kolb goes in and runs a figgin' QB sneak and we win the $@#&n' game! Football, many times over, has been equated to a chess match and, to a large degree it is. BUT, there is also a strong element of poker in the game as well. Sometimes, you need to throw some smoke and mirrors, and most importantly bluff your way to wins in the NFL. I believe Andy Reid needs to have a clearer idea of what may come down the road during the course of a ballgame. I feel that to this day, ten years since he first took over as the head honcho of the Birds, he has yet to fully master. Until our coach develops an ability to prepare for all possibilities, this team will not reach the promised land. The other reason has got to be his apparent arrogance. To run the same play again after it failed miserably the first time is absurd. He is even quoted as saying basically, that he didn't think the Bears D could hold the line like they did. Now, I know that when you get three cracks at the one yardline, and you have one of the most generous-sized O-lines in the NFL, you should be able to punch it in. But, you tried the same exact play twice in a row and didn't come close! Obviously, the Bears D was firing off the line quicker than your line was. This goes back to the aforementioned QB sneak scheme I came up with while my allergies were making it hard to live yesterday. Yet, either Sir Andy was too arrogant or too gun shy to become creative at that point. It is the same reason the Birds lost to Tampa Bay in the NFC championship game. Andy doesn't know when to be conservative and when to be imaginative sometimes. Until he figures out this nuance to coaching, we as fans might as well get used to this team disappointing us at times. This does not mean this team still won't get hot at the right time and do something special this season. The NFL has become a war of attrition. Too much gets made of games played in September, when it is those games in late November and December that really tell you the true story of a team's season. So, as disappointing as a loss as it was and is, it will be forgotten Sunday night if the Birds manage to take care of business at home and keep pace with the NFC East by taking down the 'Skins. GO BIRDS!!!!!!!!!
