Robert Griffin III is the best-known, most important Redskins player, but he is not on the team...yet. Griffin's people are negotiating his contract with the team, but he expects the deal to be done before training camp. As usual, everyone is waiting to see No. 1, Andrew Luck's deal, before signing their own deal. The new CBA removed money as an issue, but contract structure remains important, especially to Griffin, the No. 2 draft pick.

Vinnie Iyer writes at sportingnews.com that Robert Griffin III, of the four first-round quarterbacks, should have a memorable first season. Iyer notes Mike Shanahan's track record developing mobile quarterbacks and Shanahan stole receiving target Pierre Garćon away from Indianapolis and Andrew Luck.

Asked how he would improve in 2012, OLB Ryan Kerrigan said, "I have to be more consistent. In some games, I felt like I played pretty well last year, and some games I wasn’t as productive as I needed to be. Be more consistent and be a presence every week."

This just in, Redskins great Sonny Jurgensen thinks RG3 is "very gifted. I’ve never seen anyone so quick playing that position."

Sean Taylor's murder left a gaping wound in the Redskins community. A Miami-Dade County judge set, finally we hope, November 5 as the trial date for the accused shooter, Eric Rivera, Jr.

Rivera is one of five people accused of killing Taylor in a botched burglary attempt. One man has pleaded guilty. The other four have yet to be tried.

Former Redskins beat writer Jason LaCanfora says Robert Griffin III lobbied the Redskins to select Baylor teammate WR Josh Gordon in the Supplemental Draft. Griffin denied doing any such thing in an interview on ESPN980 Redskins Radio. "We all make mistakes," paraphrasing RG3 speaking of Gordon. He did not elaborate, but Griffin wished Gordon well. The Browns selected Gorgon.

Add former Redskins running back Stephen Davis to the list of players suing the NFL for concussion-related injuries. Davis noticed progressive short-term memory loss over the past year and a-half. He needs special medical treatment. More evidence that my favorite sport is killing my favorite players.

G Kory Lichtensteiger's agent says the lineman will be 100-percent recovered and a full go to participate in training camp.
