Washington-redskins-new
The Washington Redskins re-signed quarterback Rex Grossman to a one-year deal last Saturday, as expected. Instead of entering the 2012 NFL Season competing for the starting position, Grossman knows that he will be grooming, in terms of understanding the Redskins’ offensive system, the organization’s next franchise signal caller. A tenth-year vet who commands a minimum salary of $925,000 under the CBA, the Redskins are getting a good bang for their buck with a backup who knows his role and performs at a reasonable price. Washington likely signed him pursuant to the minimum-salary benefit, keeping his cap number at $540,000.  This is the third year in a row the Redskins have given Grossman a one-year deal. Instead of entering the 2012 NFL Season competing for the starting position, Grossman knows that he will be grooming, in terms of understanding the Redskins’ offensive system, the organization’s next franchise signal caller. “I know they’re going to draft a franchise QB,” said Gross...

Redskins say good-bye to Laron Landry and Donte Stallworth. London Fletcher next?

The handwriting was on the wall with this one. LaRon Landry signed a one year, $4 million deal with the New York Jets for the 2012 NFL season. The Washington Redskins left Landry unprotected when they applied the franchise tag to a healthier Fred Davis. Joe Gibbs added the first round 2007 Draft pick to the roster to pair him with the late Sean Taylor to force more "coverage...

Redskins G Kory Lichtensteiger signs his tender

Offensive lineman Kory Lichtensteiger has signed his one-year, $1.26 million restricted free agent tender to remain with the Washington Redskins. The Redskins also announced Tuesday that defensive end Adam Carriker has signed his new deal. Carriker last week agreed to a four-year, $20 million contract with $7 million guaranteed. Lichtensteiger returns for his third season in Washington...

Jets agree to 1-year deal with S LaRon Landry

Free-agent safety LaRon Landry has agreed in principle on a one-year deal with the Jets, filling one of New York's most pressing needs. Landry spent his first five NFL seasons with the Washington Redskins after he was picked No. 6 overall in the 2007 draft out of LSU. The hard-hitting Landry had a number of teams interested in him despite finishing last season on injured reserve...

For Dan Snyder and Mike Shanahan, RG3′s pro day includes a stop at Waco’s Hooters

I’ll say Shanny had the chicken wings, while Danny boy ordered a Grilled Chicken Caesar salad, the perfect side dish for his Napoleon Complex. Dan Snyder, Mike Shanahan, Kyle Shanahan and Bruce Allen flew down to Waco, Texas to take in Robert Griffin III’s pro day on Wednesday, and of course the first place they hit was a local Hooters. The thought of drafting RG3 has everybody...

Josh Morgan: Player Profile

One of the big free agent wide receivers that the Washington Redskins were able to sign last week was Josh Morgan formerly of the San Francisco 49ers. Morgan is coming off an injury year in 2011 as he was placed on injured reserve after starting the first five games of the year. Morgan has rebounded

Redskins bring back Rex Grossman

According to Mike Jones of the Washington Post, the Redskins have re-signed free agent quarterback Rex Grossman. As much as Redskins fans don’t want to have to look at Grossman anymore, it’s a smart move because he already knows the offense and it will allow the coaches to focus on teaching Robert Griffin III the system once he’s drafted and comes in. Also as bad as Grossman...

Redskins leaders gear up for RG3's Pro Day at Hooters

I saw the tweet on my timeline this morning and thought Deadspin was up to its old tricks."Before watching RGIII throw, San Snyder and Mike Shanahan visit Hooters," shouted the headline.  Pursue the story and one finds photographic evidence that the Washington Redskins brain trust (hush yo' mouth) went to the local Hooters the night before Robert Griffin III's...

LaRon Landry Ends His Sorry Redskins Career, Signs With Jets

LaRon Landry, five years removed from being drafted No. 6 overall, is leaving the Redskins for a one-year, $4 million deal with the Jets. Not much to say other than, well, it was a strange and disappointing five years. Good luck to The Ron, and good luck to any shirts with sleeves in the NY metropolitan area. They’ll need it.

Dan Snyder And Mike Shanahan Go To Hooters In Texas (PHOTO)

Dan Snyder and Mike Shanahan’s visit to a Hooters in Texas is already documented on D.C. Sports Bog and Hogs Haven, so all that’s left to do is make one killer joke, right? Okay, no pressure. Whew. Here goes … They must’ve enjoyed it, because Shanny’s face is covered in wing sauce. BOOM, ROASTED!

A Washington Redskins Fan and The Search for Objectivity

Besides loyalty, there is only one other trait I expect from NFL fans:The ability to remain objective.I don't want to talk to Philadelphia Eagles fans who get defensive when I tell them the truth about their team.  I don't want to hear a Baltimore Ravens fan tell me every year thattheir team will win the championship that season, even though they haven't won the title...

Jets Ink Safety Landry

In their biggest free agent splash so far, the Jets came to terms with former Redskins S LaRon Landry today, filling a huge void in Rex Ryan's defense. The deal was confirmed by several sources and reportedly is for one year at $4MM. Many teams have been hesitant to sign the talented defensive back due to a history of injuries including a chronic Achilles' issue.Landry, a...

Jets sign LaRon Landry to 1-yr, $4 million deal

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the New York Jets have signed free agent safety LaRon “The Hulk” Landry to a one-year $4 million deal. If Landry’s healthy and that’s a big if, he’ll be a great acquisition for the Jets.  The problem is that he’s been dealing with a lingering Achilles injury for the past two seasons. Landry is great at stopping the run and is adequate...
