In an early season upset, the Washington Redskins beat the New Orleans Saints 40-32. The Redskins visited the defending NFC South champs for a week one showdown in the SuperDome. With exceptional play on the parts of a few different players, choosing the "Hero" of this game was made a little more interesting, but I think we all would agree on my pick.

Hero:

A guy by the name of Robert Griffin, III, was the hero in this game. Griffin managed to join the NFL's history book in his debut, putting up the second best performance ever, by a rookie quarterback. RG3 had his way with the Saints defense. He passed for 320 yards going 19-26 and two touchdowns. He scampered away from the threat of the rush, buying time to find receivers that were open down the field.

Griffin performed as if he had been playing on Sundays for years now. He remained poised in the pocket and constantly made smart decisions. We'll hear a lot more from him for seasons to come.

Honorable Mention:

RG3 wasn't the only rookie to standout for the Redskins in Week 1. Running back Alfred Morris had a big game which helped to propel the Redskins to victory. The sixth-round draft pick from Florida Atlantic carried the ball 28 times, for 96 yards and two touchdowns.

The Redskins Defense played well in a match-up that no one would've probably given them a chance in. They forced three turnovers, a fumble and two fourth-quarter interceptions.

Zero:

Now, when it comes to the "Zero" in a game, no one ever wants that title. I would imagine that being the single worst player in a game is a hard pill to swallow. Well, I've done each individual a favor this week. There isn't a single worst effort; the Saints earned this honor by working as a team.

The New Orleans Saints are notorious for losing games that should be considerably easy wins. Today was no different. The Saints dropped a game that on paper, wouldn't receive a second glance. But as the adage goes, "That's why we play the games!"

The offense never gelled for the Saints, and the defense couldn't seem to find a remedy to slow down Robert Griffin. No matter the opponent, when you don't bring your best on Sundays, you can go home with hung heads. The Saints have arguably the toughest division in football; they have to come to play every game. This week, they didn't.
