Watch: #22 Miami Baseball Defeats Penn State 3-2 on Walk-Off Homer
USA TODAY Sports

After suffering a 9-5 loss to Penn State on Opening Day Friday, the Miami Hurricanes were able to take two of three from the Nittany Lions, sealing a series win on a walk-off, two-run home run from junior first baseman CJ Kayfus, Sunday in Miami.

With his team trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the ninth inning with two outs, Kayfus stepped into the batter's box with a runner on first base, and the Hurricanes' first series of the season on the line.

On the first pitch he saw, Kayfus took Penn State reliever Steven Miller for a ride to deep right-center, and Miami celebrated its first series win of the season.

Miller accounted for all three of the Hurricanes' runs. Penn State took an early 2-0 lead. Miller took over for starter Tommy Molsky after five innings. Miller allowed one run in the sixth, before Kayfus gave the Canes the win in the ninth, at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field in Miami, Florida.

Kayfus, a native of Wellington, Florida and a graduate of Palm Beach Central High School, is coming off a highly productive sophomore year in which batted .366 with a .460 On Base Percentage, eight home runs, 51 RBI and 16 stolen bases.

Miami will host Stetson on Tuesday and Indiana State on Wednesday, before playing a home series against Dartmouth next weekend in Miami.

With the late loss, Penn State opens the season 1-2. The Nittany Lions will not play again until Friday, when they take on Maine in Cary, North Carolina. Saturday, the club will play a doubleheader against Northern Illinois, and Sunday, the club will square off with Monmouth, all in Cary.
