It had been a shocker for the entire NFL, when the Buffalo Bills traded their star receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans, this offseason. As many believed, the franchise made a huge mistake and ruined their playoff odds. But not Shannon Sharpe– who expressed his unwavering support for the Bills for the next season.

In the recent episode of First Take, the former NFL star tight end boldly picked the Bills over the team considered to be a real threat to the reigning Super Bowl champions– the Texans. Against all odds and expert opinions from Stephen A. Smith, Sharpe chose to stand by the Bills and ranked them higher in the AFC hierarchy.

I think they [the Bills] are clearly behind Kansas City and Baltimore in my estimation. The uncertainty with Houston leaves me…I would say probably fourth or fifth. I’m not so sure I’m putting them in front of Miami. Shannon Sharpe said

Sharpe expressed his keen faith in the quarterback Josh Allen, applauding his ability to lead the team. Contrary to other’s opinions about Allen, following the departure of Diggs, the ESPN analyst remained confident about the star quarterback.

Why did the Bills trade off Stefon Diggs?

There have been many debates on why the Bills took the bold decision to trade off their star wide receiver. As many believe, it may have been influenced by his infamous rift with quarterback Allen . It all started in January 2023, when the Cincinnati Bengals defeated the Bills in the divisional round game of the playoffs.

Diggs was caught on the sideline yelling at his quarterback. Though head coach Sean McDermott dismissed the speculations about his dysfunctional relationship, it was too evident to ignore.

Since his departure, many locker room scenes have unfolded based on which it can said, that Diggs is never a motivating or leading character in the Bills’ locker room, as they expected. In fact, the receiver has a reputation for criticizing his teammates openly, more than he defends them. With everything happening, it seems the right decision for the Bills to eliminate the negativity of their locker room.
