Instant 49ers:
Here's a rundown of what must happen in the final three weeks of the regular season for the 49ers to extend their season into the playoffs . . .
The 49ers can't be concerned with the NFC's big picture. They must simply take care of business today against the Philadelphia Eagles. But we can peek ahead to see what must happen for the 49ers to have any chance at the playoffs.
If the 49ers upset the Eagles today, they must win remaining games at home against the Lions and on the road against the Rams to have any chance.
The 49ers have not put together a four-game win streak since the 2001 season. But they must finish on that kind of roll for their first winning record since 2002. That would also give the 49ers an outside chance at a spot in the NFC playoff.
New Orleans (13-1) and Minnesota (11-2) are assured of playoff spots. For these purposes, we'll go ahead and assume Green Bay (9-4, with a victory over the 49ers) is going to make it into the playoffs...
