The first time Steve Weatherford rolled through the New York Giants locker room with a laundry cart, collecting castoff tennis shoes and cleats, he made sure to tell teammates he wasn't selling their stuff on eBay. Quite the contrary. The Giants punter ships his teammates' old shoes back to his hometown of Terre Haute, Ind., with the latest care package arriving Wednesday. Collecting the shoes is a ''no-brainer,'' Weatherford says. The poverty rate in Terre Haute is double the state average, and 54 percent of the kids in the school district are on fee-reduced lunches. People in his hometown have always supported and encouraged him, Weatherford says, and this is his way of repaying them.

Giants defensive tackle Chris Canty has plenty of confidence heading into the Super Bowl on Sunday. His message to fans was for them to get ready for a parade.

Jason Pierre-Paul: Tom Brady Isn’t God

New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul isn’t too worried about being able to rattle Patriots quarterback Tom Brady this coming Sunday. “Anybody can be rattled,” said Pierre-Paul.  “Tom Brady is a great quarterback, but at the end of the day he’s just a quarterback. It’s not like he’s God.” Pierre-Paul is right,  the past...

Herzlich Tweet Best Out of Indy

Forget media day. Spare me the hype and the Brady-Manning comparisons. Let’s talk about Coughlin and Canton later. Amidst all the nonsense making “news” in the weeks leading up to this Sunday’s Super Bowl, this tweet from Giants linebacker Mark Herzlich speaks the loudest.

A year ago Giants safety Antrel Rolle said that it was time for coach Tom Coughlin to realize it’s 2011 and update his coaching methods. But in 2012, Rolle says he has come around to see the wisdom in the way Coughlin does things. “My first season I questioned a lot of things that coach…

It's been hours since I last blogged because my day has been jammed with events from 7 a.m. this morning. After I left Amani Toomer, I arrived at the Giants hotel for their final camera time before Sunday.

Kraft and Mara enjoy the fruits of their NFL labor

No one would have guessed while the NFL labor war raged last spring that the three of them would be so happy to see each other again. ''We met at a time when football looked like it might not continue,'' NFL players union chief DeMaurice Smith said, his arm draped over the shoulders of Patriots owner Robert Kraft. ''To be here now and watch a great game unfold...

Mario gunning 4 score

INDIANAPOLIS — Hakeem Nicks is the most accomplished of Giants receivers. Victor Cruz has been the breakout star this season. But it is Mario Manningham who is on the cusp of history. If Manningham scores a touchdown in Super Bowl XLVI on Sunday vs. the Patriots, he will become just the...

Prince Amukamara takes a rough path to Super Bowl XLVI

Super Bowl XLVI: To say that Giants cornerback Prince Amukamara is living a dream by playing in the Super Bowl on Sunday implies his rookie season has been idyllic. It has not.

League fines Umenyiora $20,000

Well, that didn’t take long. Albert Breer of NFL Network reports that the league fined Osi Umenyiora $20,000 for skipping Wednesday morning’s media session. Umenyiora was back at a team meeting this afternoon, so it doesn’t appear to be a major concern. It’s believed the league set a record time between infraction and penalty. New…
