  • Assistant athletic director for football Scott Draper confirmed that Michigan is in talks to schedule a game with UMass. If scheduled, however, that game would not be the 2010 season opener, as originally reported. Draper said that Michigan is in talks with a couple teams about Michigan Stadium's "dedication game," an event that Michigan hopes to make "special." I doubt the opponent will be anything more than a cupcake, simply based on the way Michigan schedules and because they likely wouldn't want to bring in a tough opponent for a dedication game.
  • Former Michigan player and Detroit-native Larry Foote will likely sign with the Lions if he is released by the Steelers. The expectation is that he will be gone from the Steelers after the weekend if no trade occurs. Should he be released, the chances of Foote ending up a Lion are extremely high.
  • Andy Katz released a revised preseason top 25 for basketball and moved Michigan from 11th to 9th. I'm optimistic about the 2009-10 season just as much as the next guy, but 9th? I think that is a pretty high expectation for Michigan. Although there's no denying the progress the team made in John Beilein's second season was truly remarkable, I think the top ten is a bit of a stretch right now.
