Although Brandon Weeden is the Browns' presumed starter, the rookie quarterback isn't assuming anything in his competition with Colt McCoy. Coach Pat Shurmur has not yet chosen Weeden his starter, but the team is grooming the 28-year-older to be their franchise quarterback. Weeden said ''not yet'' when asked if anything has happened to make him think he won't be behind center when the Browns open their season against Philadelphia on Sept. 9. McCoy, who started 13 games last season, said he hasn't allowed himself to think about being a backup. Seneca Wallace, the Browns' backup QB the past two seasons, doesn't believe there is room for himself, Weeden and McCoy. Wallace has been impressed with Weeden and says he's got ''all the things you want in a quarterback.''

Browns' Weeden still running with starters

Rookie quarterback Brandon Weeden continues to take first-team reps with the Browns, adding to the growing sentiment that he'll overtake Colt McCoy as the team's starting quarterback entering the 2012 season. Wallace says Weeden will be the starter

BEREA - There is the occasional NFL player or coach who cuts through the noise and gets to the bottom line. Tuesday, Browns backup quarterback Seneca Wallace filled that role by placing the teams competition at quarterback into perspective. The game is a lot of hype, a lot of business involved with whos playing and whos not, Wallace said at the last offseason practice open to the...

Pat Shurmur and Secenca Wallace might not be on the same page

With regard to the role of “third quarterback” for the Cleveland Browns, it appears that there is a slight misunderstanding between Browns head coach Pat Shurmur and veteran back-up quarterback Seneca Wallace. With last year’s starter Colt McCoy still in the fold, and one of this season’s first-round draft pick Brandon Weeden expected to start, Shurmur feels that all of his...

Impact Rookies: Trent Richardson

In 2010, the Cleveland Browns were briefly a dangerous team, upsetting the Saints and Patriots in consecutive weeks and taking the Jets into overtime. That was at the height of Peyton Hillis’ success in Cleveland, as he averaged over 130 total yards per game during that stretch. The 2012 Browns offense should look similar to the 2010 version, with Trent Richardson playing the...
