Prior to this game, the belief around the league was that the Dolphins were trending up under new coach Joe Philbin and rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill. Meanwhile, many believed the Titans had the first nail put into their coffin after they were humiliated by the Chicago Bears. Then, the Dolphins go out and score THREE points to Tennessee’s 37 and no one can make heads of tails of either team. Do I know? Absolutely not. But I can sure as hell try and figure it out. You see, I don’t believe either of these teams are playoff caliber to begin with. Therefore, they are not good teams. They are not exactly bad teams. But if you think either are good, I don’t know what to tell you. This is what happens when two mediocre teams matchup. One is overzealous while the other is hungry for a win. While the Dolphins offense was non-existent, the Titans actually have built a foundation to stand upon going forward. Why? That I do know. For six out of the ten weeks we have already experienced of this glorious NFL season, Chris Johnson has eclipsed 90 yards on the ground. Five of those six have been a minimum of 99 yards. He is back to averaging more than five yards per carry (5.1). Johnson, however, only has four touchdowns on the season. Two of which came against the Buffalo Bills in his 18-carry, 195-yard outburst. CJ2K also posted 141 rushing yards on the Chicago Bears on only 16 carries. Titans’ fans have long awaited for the return of their beloved back and it seems like his days of misery on the field are behind him. His play is pivotal in the development of second year quarterback Jake Locker, who returned from injury to help lead Tennessee to this victory Sunday afternoon. Locker, who is still a bit of a project, only complete nine passes for 122 yards against the Dolphins but he did not turn the ball over and he threw for two scores. Not bad. The biggest thing for Locker is maintaining possession of the football. One of the most feared home run hitters in the league is back in action so as long as Locker can manage the game, the Titans will prove to be a tough out. If Johnson cannot continue to run the ball effectively, more resposibility will fall on the shoulders of Locker. With Kenny Britt being a non-factor for much of the 2012 season, the offense would rest on a first year starter of a quarterback and rookie wide receiver in Kendall Wright. Not exactly a recipe for success. In due time I believe both players have the ability to be solid pros, but not in 2012. Keep feeding the rock to Johnson and catch the defense offguard with play actions and bootlegs.
