It’s the final game of the year, and who else would you want to come calling other than the Pittsburgh Steelers? The Steelers sit at 11-4 with a lot to play for still. If the Cincinnati Bengals make it into the playoffs by virtue of beating the Baltimore Ravens at home, a Steelers win makes them the #2 seed (and depending on New England’s result, possibly the top seed) with a first-round bye and home playoff game instead of taking it on the road opening weekend of the playoffs. For the Browns, Colt McCoy, Jordan Norwood, and Tony Pashos (fist pump!) will be inactive for the Browns this afternoon as Seneca Wallace and Artis Hicks will start at quarterback and right tackle. For the Steelers, linebacker Lamarr Woodley, running back Mewelde Moore, and offensive lineman Dan Legursky are out, but Ben Roethlisberger will at least start the game as will Troy Polamalu. The hope, I’m sure, is that a 17-0 or 21-0 start for Pittsburgh may allow them to sit these guys by halftime. I’d be lyi...

Browns look forward after 4-12 season

As the Cleveland Browns packed up after another losing season, veteran cornerback Sheldon Brown preached patience. With one of the NFL's youngest teams, the Browns (4-12) endured growing pains in their first season under coach Pat Shurmur, who was brought in to build a foundation. Brown believes Shurmur is the right choice to resurrect the Browns and said the biggest mistake...

Browns players still positive despite record

BEREA, Ohio -- As the players packed up their belongings to head into another offseason without the playoffs, several of the players said they think the team is heading in the right direction despite finishing 4-12, a game worse than 2010. "We're very close," Sheldon Brown said. "We were one or two plays in each game away (from winning). We just have to understand...

Cleveland Browns Play Hard to the End, Drop Season-Ender to Steelers

In all too familiar fashion, the Cleveland Browns wrapped up their season with the stands filled with black and urine-colored clothing.  I wasn’t there, so I can’t comment on the smell, but I have some suspicions.  Ultimately those kinds of verbal barbs are all we as a city can muster because the Steelers won the game 13-9 despite a chance to win it with a hail mary as time...

Steelers Stop Browns in Slopfest Bringing 2011 Season to Merciful End

“We played sub-par today, but got a win. We need to step up next week and get better — a lot better.” — James Harrison If these Browns were a one-term president, they’d be James Buchanan. … [A] team where as many players (nine) had concussions as scored touchdowns this season. — Terry Pluto ————— For the twelfth year in a row, there are at least five teams...

Steelers Hold Off Broncos 13-9 – Game Recap

The Pittsburgh Steelers had another close game to finish out the 2011 regular season, but they held on to beat the Cleveland Browns 13-9 Sunday at Cleveland Municipal Stadium. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger started despite his left ankle still not being 100% and threw for 221 yards on 40 attempts. He was sacked twice on the afternoon, but did not turn the ball over in the win. Wide...

10 Observations Steelers at Browns

The Steelers took down the Browns to run their record to 12-4 for the season.  The team will be heading to Denver for their first playoff game.  Game time has not been announced yet.  Here are some observations from the Steelers at Browns game.  These observations are going to be full of milestones. Observations: Ben Roethlisberger got to 4,000 Yards Passing.  While Ben started...

Steelers Outlast Weather & Browns 13-9

It was a day filled with wind, rain, cold air, and snow. A perfect setting for AFC North rivalry football. Both teams came in to this game with highly ranked defensive units, Cleveland being the 10th and Pittsburgh owning the top spot. It was a long, and hard fought battle that ended in favor of the Steelers. Both teams quarterbacks were out the previous weeks with nagging injuries...

Steelers Heading to Denver on Sunday Despite 13-9 Win Over Browns

It doesn’t really matter how they pulled it off, as it was a season of ups and downs and lots of hangovers, but the Steelers ended up 12-4 for the regular season, secured the #5 seed in the AFC, and are heading to Denver on Sunday, January 8 at 4:30 p.m. The 13-9 win over the Cleveland Browns pretty much culminated this rocky season. It seems that the Steelers have lost running...

Let's Start 2012 Off Right...

Ok, here's the deal - what follows is not going to be what I'd typically refer to as a "preview."For three reasons...1) Didn't write a preview for Bengals, Browns (Round 1), or Rams, but did for 49ers, and look how that worked out2) When you're reading this it will either be New Year's Eve day or New Year's day (if it gets read at all...
