Buffalo at N.Y. Jets

Sunday, 1:00 p.m. ET, at MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, N.J. - TV: CBS; DirecTV: 711

*TV announcers: Kenny Albert, Rich Gannon

*Keys to the game: The Jets have kept their plans for the Wildcat package with Tim Tebow under complete wraps, but they need to bust out some level of offensive aptitude following a horrid preseason. The plan under new offensive coordinator Tony Sparano is to feature a power ground game, and the Bills did allow 4.8 yards per carry last season. The Jets are also confident the passing game will pick up with Santonio Holmes healthy and complemented by rookie Stephen Hill, who poses a physical mismatch for Buffalo but also suffered a few drops during the preseason. Buffalo focused its offseason on upgrading the defensive while making mostly cosmetic changes on offense. What's for certain is RBs Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller will combine for a heavy workload in what should be a tight game. With CB Darrelle Revis likely shadowing Stevie Johnson, the Bills need Donald Jones to continue his emergence as a legitimate No. 2 option in the passing game.

*Matchup to watch - Bills DE Mario Williams vs. Jets RT Austin Howard: The Bills gave Williams a six-year, $100 million deal and put him on the left side of their defensive line to wreak havoc against the league's elite right tackles. Howard, a former undrafted rookie out of Northern Iowa set to make his second career start - and first regular-season appearance since 2010 - doesn't exactly fit that criteria. He'll require consistent help in passing situations.

*Player spotlight - Bills LT Cordy Glenn: Some scouts viewed the massive Glenn as a better guard prospect, but the Bills see a lot of upside in him as a blind-side protector and anointed the rookie as a starter weeks ago.

*Fast facts: Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick had an 85.1 passer rating with four touchdown passes and two interceptions in two meetings last season. ... The Jets were the first team in 35 years to go through their first three preseason games without scoring a touchdown.

WHO WILL WIN AND WHY

Both offenses believe they are improved despite disappointing preseasons. The difference for the Bills is having more playmaking ability in the backfield with the tandem of Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller.

*Our pick: Bills 20-19
