Week 1 NFL Predictions

By SBRForum.com

The NFL season is right around the corner as the Hall of Fame Game is set to kickoff this Sunday. Don’t blink or you’ll miss the preseason and the rest of training camps.

It’s never too soon to start looking ahead and that’ exactly what we’re doing. Week 1 of the NFL season begins on Wednesday, September 5th. Here's a look at three Week 1 contests along with our predictions on the current NFL odds (points spreads may change).

Dallas Cowboys @ New York Giants

NFL Odds: Giants -3.5

The Cowboys and Giants kickoff the regular season on Wednesday, September 5th and while the Giants are the Super Bowl champs and the Cowboys didn’t even make the playoffs, there isn’t much between these teams.

The Giants had a sluggish regular season last year and barely squeaked into the playoffs. It feels like the lines are slightly inflated in their favor because of the Super Bowl ring but this is a team that’s traditionally played better on the road than at home.

Take the Cowboys with the points as they’ll be looking to make a statement in an early barometer test against last year’s best team.

Pick: Cowboys +3.5

Jacksonville Jaguars @ Minnesota Vikings

NFL Odds: Vikings -4.5

The Jaguars are coming off a rough season and there is no evidence that it’s going to get any better. Their first-round pick, wide receiver Justin Blackmon, is holding out and second-year quarterback Blaine Gabbert hasn’t exactly flashed signs that he’s going to become a quality starting NFL quarterback any time soon.

The Vikings were bad last season two but they have a running game, a defense and home-field advantage on their side. They’re the pick in this spot.

Pick: Vikings -4.5

New England Patriots @ Tennessee Titans

NFL Odds: Patriots -6.5

The Patriots had an awesome offense to begin with but they spent their offseason – particularly through the draft – improving their defense. It was one of the worst units in the NFL last season but they’ll be looking to make a statement right off the bat in Week 1.

The Titans are a good, young team but they’re not going to be able to match points with the Patriots. They’re at a severe disadvantage in quarterbacking in this game as they’ll either throw youngster Jake Locker into the fire or put over-the-hill veteran Matt Hasselbeck to work, which isn’t likely to turn out well.

Pick: Patriots -6.5
