MVN Jets:
Week three in the NFL really proved one thing to me. The bottom third of the NFL is completely ATROCIOUS. Seriously there are so many pathetic and hopeless teams in the NFL. Watching the end of the Redskins-Lions and trying to stay awake as the Panthers and Cowboys played patty cakes was brutal enough. I can't recall there being so many teams completely lost.1. New York Jets (1) - Blew out Houston on the road, won a defensive struggle over the hated Patriots, and went toe for toe with a desperate but talented Titans squad. The Jets have proven they can win all kinds of games and now in back to back weeks have won close games late. The road doesn't get any easier for the Jets with a trip to the Superdome in the Co Main Event of Week 4.2. New York Giants (2) - Workmanlike performance in disposing of a lifeless Bucs team. Schedule tosses them another easy road game against pathetic competition with Kansas City this week. 3.
Baltimore Ravens (3) - Joe Flacco tore apart a sad Cleveland secondary and Willis MaGahee is punching the ball in. Ravens go to New England this weekend in the early Co Main Event. 4. Indianapolis Colts (6) - Leapfrog the Saints with a complete domination of the defending NFC champions on the road. Rookie WR Pierre Garcon made another huge play and Manning carved up the fluke Cardinals. 5. New Orleans Saints (5) - Pedestrian performance this weekend but the Saints passed the trap game in Buffalo with the contest with the Jets looming. Offense will be tested with Rex Ryan's pressure this weekend. 6. Minnesota Vikings (8) - Brett Favre pulled off one of the top plays of his career to ex-Eagles WR G LEW! Greg Lewis had a knack for the big play in Philly and its carried over to Minnesota. Fact remains Favre was mediocre for most of the game and APete was contained. More of an indication of how solid the 49ers actually are in my opinion.7. New England Patriots (10) - Quality win over the previous #4 Atlanta. The offense was stopped far too often prior to the end zone but more importantly the much maligned defense stuffed a high powered Falcons attack. 8. Atlanta Falcons (4) - Disappointing effort from Atlanta. Too early to dismiss this team as a top NFC threat but man that was a ho-hum effort in New England. I expected more of a fight from the Falcons to be honest. 9. Philadelphia Eagles (11) - Not impressive that they beat the KC Chiefs. But for any offense to look that good without your starting QB, RB, and one of your WR behind a OL still trying to gel is impressive. Kevin Kolb stole the spotlight from Mike Vick's ho-hum return. Brent Celek is sooo underrated and DeSean Jackson owns your life.10. San Francisco 49ers (9) - Win over Arizona looks less impressive after the Cards lifeless performance this week but the 49ers had the Vikings beat and looked solid all game. Vernon Davis has transformed from a workout warrior bust to a legit deep threat TE. 11.
San Diego Chargers (11) - Average first half against Miami but Phillip Rivers led the team to a strong second half. Vincent Jackson is the best WR that doesn't get a whole lot of attention. If VJ played on the east coast he would be a mega star. 12.
Chicago Bears (14) - Eeeked out a close one over a self destructing Seahawks team. Chicago is already in full blown Cutler = Savior mode.13.
Dallas Cowgirls (16) - I'll say it again, the Cowboys are easily a top team in terms of talent but Jason Garrett is such a pitiful play caller I think he blows any chance this team has long term. And DAMN Felix Jones for being on Dallas, I really wish he wasn't so I could like him, he's as explosive as they get at RB...that being said F HIM. 14. Denver Broncos (21) - Granted their schedule has been AWFUL. But 3-0 is 3-0. Better yet their defense is flying around and obviously Josh McDaniels is onto something. Still there first real test of the year is this weekend when Dallas comes to town. 15. Cincinnati Bengas (22) - Two quality wins now over Green Bay and nemesis Pittsburgh. One fluke play from 3-0. My preseason sleeper is alive and should push to 3-1 with Cleveland this week. Then again this would be classic Bungals to lose to the hopeless Browns. 16. Green Bay Packers (17) - Let the Rams stick around for awhile this weekend. Huge test when they travel to Minnesota this weekend for Favre Bowl. 17. Pittsburgh Steelers (7) - Freefall for the defending champs. Only win is over an 0-3 team and failed in closing out the Bears and Bengals when they had the opportunity. Season is hanging in the balance Sunday night with a AFC Championship rematch on tap.18.
Arizona Cardinals (13) - How fitting they sit one spot below Pittsburgh just like last season ended. Only I'd say the Steelers are 90% more likely to be a major factor late in the year. Same problems that plagued them all of the regular season last year remain but their division isn't so pitiful. The clock is about to strike midnight on the Cards.19. Seattle Seahawks (19) - This is where the NFL truly gets sad. After 18 I can't really distinguish between most of these teams on the given day. Had the Bears down early but Olindo Mare failed the team. 20. Houston Texans (15) - So disappointing. Their defense obviously can challenge for worst in the league. Back to back weeks Chris Johnson and MJD have completely ripped this team a new AHOLE. Seems like Texans are set for another roller coaster mediocre year.21. Tennessee Titans (18) - 0-3 and hope is fading. Vince Young may get some looks if they fall any further back. 22. Jacksonville Jaguars (27) - Showed some testicular fortitude for a change. As MJD goes the Jags will. 23. Buffalo Bills (25) - The Bills lost and actually moved up, yea the bottom third is that sad. The offense couldn't expose an average Saints defense but the defense was the first to slow down the Saints attack. More importantly the T.O. blowup is coming...I feel it24.
Carolina Panthers (23) - Jake Delhomme..LOL. Terrible deep balls all night and his WR's are just quitting on him right now furthering the problems. Panthers should insta sign freshly released Jeff Garcia. 25. Miami Dolphins (20) - Pennington's injury may be a blessing with the season all but lost. Time to see if Chad Henne can bring another dimension to the offense. 26. Detroit Lions (31) - Hallelujah!! There is a pulse! The Lions win over Washington ended over a years worth of defeat. Gotta tell you, while Sanchez is getting the spotlight, Matthew Stafford is looking REALLY GOOD and making great decisions. They are a long way from contending but there is light at the end of the tunnel. 27. Washington Redskins (24) - I thought during the last day how losing to Detroit should instantly condemn them to last...but the teams below are all TERRIBLE. 28. Oakland Raiders (26) - JaMarcus Russell makes Jason Campbell look like John Elway. Seriously Russell should be out of football in three years...MAX.29. Kansas City Chiefs (28) - Somehow let JaMarcus Russell engineer a game winning drive on them Week 2. Couldn't slow the Eagles JV offense and defense is spineless. 30.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (29) - The Josh Johnson era set to begin. He's an electrifying athlete but sadly there is nothing else on that squad. How they went from virtual playoff lock late last year to one of the five worst teams in football is interesting. 31. St. Louis Rams (32) - Played Green Bay tight for three quarters. Had every opportunity to beat the Skins in Week 2 but blew it.32. Cleveland Browns (30) - Convinced they will make a serious run at 0-16. Quinn and Anderson are obviously not the answer. They don't have anything resembling a defense and can't score TD's.
