At 5-1 the 49ers  come into week 8 with a commanding 3 game lead in the NFC West. Week 8 presents another opportunity for the team to separate themselves even further from the pack. While the 49ers  had one of the hardest schedules in the NFL early in the season they managed to get through at 5-1 suffering only 1 close loss to the Dallas Cowboys week 2. The rest of the way the 49ers have one of the easiest schedules in the entire league with 5 games left against the West and only 3 games vs. teams over .500. Each week will present another opportunity to inch closer towards clinching the division and setting their sights on home field advantage in the playoffs. Yes 49er  fans I said it, home field advantage in the PLAYOFFS!The 49ers  host the Browns and while Cleveland hasn’t been as bad as I expected they come into week 8 they are still early in their rebuilding and aren’t on the same level as the 49ers. To make matters worse for Browns fans running back Peyton Hillis will miss toda...

Brooks gets lip

So what do you get when you run face first into a tackle without a helmet. For linebacker Ahmad Brooks, the resulting split lip means no going out after the game, no television interviews and maybe no kisses from his girl friend. Brooks, on the second play of the game against the Browns, beat...

Video: Alex Smith finds new targets in offensive, defensive tackles

Quarterback Alex Smith of the San Francisco 49ers has finally seen enough of the light after a disappointing start to his career to be among the top half of quarterbacks in the NFL. What Smith has been missing is elite...

Gore leads surging 49ers to win against Cleveland

SAN FRANCISCO -- Frank Gore received regular calls and encouragement from Roger Craig all offseason as he recovered from a fractured hip. Craig shared training tips, too. When Gore charged up the middle with his signature burst for a 2-yard gain Sunday, he took another step forward in franchise history by moving past Craig into second place on the 49ers career rushing list.

For the stat freaks

Getting back to their winning ways the 49ers are establishing a raft of positive statistics, some of which have not been seen since the 1990 s. Here's a sampling, which were mostly assembled by the team's cracker jack P.R. staff. -The 49ers are 6-1 for the first time since 1998. -This is...
