Headline: Seahawks 3rd round pick The Seattle Seahawks’ John Schneider and Pete Carroll shocked me once again when they selected troubled running back Christine Michael with their second round pick.  With Sio Moore and Khaseem Greene still on the board, I thought for sure they were going to draft one of those two players. Moore was drafted by the Oakland Raiders four picks later, while Greene was still available when the Seahawks selected. They didn’t draft Greene here, either. Instead they selected: Name: Jordan Hill Position: Defensive Tackle College: Penn State Height: 6’1″ Weight: 301 lbs. 40 yard dash: 5.23 Jordan Hill chosen 87th overall in the 3rd round Selecting defensive tackle Jordan Hill, when they could have filled their need at WLB, is perplexing to me.  I have to assume they either have a plan to fill that void on their team, or they feel like Malcolm Smith is better than any option in this year’s draft. Jordan Hill is the newest Seattle Seahawk. (Photo: Evan Habeed/USA TODAY Sports) I sure hope it’s the former. Even-though I wanted to see the Seahawks grab a starting caliber weak-side linebacker today, I love this pick. Why, you ask? Because I believe he completes the defensive line.  Add to that the fact that the secondary is complete, and two-thirds of the linebacking corps is in good shape, the team can protect one position of weakness on defense. Hill gives the Seahawks a solid starting DT to line up next to Brandon Mebane for the foreseeable future.  One of his big knocks is that he wears down if he plays too many snaps.  Luckily, coach Carroll’s defense rotates a lot of lineman. I do have some concerns about him over extending at times, which causes him to become off balance.  During the Senior Bowl practices I noticed him getting pancaked a couple times because of it. Other than that, this young man uses his quick hands to fight off blockers and beat double teams.  I am not sure Jordan will ever see a Pro Bowl, but I do believe he has the potential to be a starting tackle for the next 8-10 years in the NFL. Worst-case scenario, he is a major upgrade over Clinton McDonald. Great pick by Carroll and Schneider right here! If your looking for some instant analysis of the pick from NFL Network’s Mike Mayock, here you go. “As coaches got involved with evaluation his draft status got pushed up higher. I believe with Brandon Mebane inside the Seahawks will have a great rotation. He’s a solid football player, and he’ll help the Seattle.” That Seahawks have 10 picks tomorrow. Don’t forget the draft starts at 9 AM PDT Saturday. Fourth: 26th, No. 123 overall Fifth: 5th, No. 138 overall (From Raiders in Matt Flynn trade) Fifth: 25th, No. 158 overall Fifth: 32nd, No. 165 overall (Trade when Ravens moved up from 62 to 56) Sixth: 26th, No. 194 overall Sixth: 31st, No. 199 overall (Trade when Ravens moved up from 62 to 56) Seventh: 14th, No. 220 overall (From Saints in Barrett Ruud trade) Seventh: 25th, No. 231 overall Seventh: 35th, No. 241 overall (Compensatory) Seventh: 36th, No. 242 overall (Compensatory) Go Seahawks!
