Wes Welker (Photo Credit: David Zalubowski/AP)Wes Welker is settling right in to the Denver Broncos offense, as training camp continues to, what feels like for us football fans, drag on. However, Welker expressed that he never wants to feel in a comfort zone. “I want to continue to push myself and put myself in the right position to try and make plays for this team”, Welker said in a press conference. Though Welker didn’t want to make any contrasts or comparisons between former Quarterback Tom Brady and Peyton Manning, Manning has been looking at Welker’s performance in New England. “I would be lying if I told you we have not studied what worked well for Wes in New England,” Manning said. “There’s certain pass patterns and certain things that he has done so well for so long, you’d be crazy not to copy some of those things and bring them to your offense.” Training camp is the perfect opportunity for quarterbacks and new receivers to get comfortable with each other, running play after play until they feel they have it down. But what happens on the field at the Paul D. Bowlen Memorial Broncos Center, can’t be compared to what happens at Mile High. “It’s always easy to sit there on the chalkboard or talk about things, until they actually happen in live action, it’s kind of hard to correct. So, it’s good to go out there and almost kind of screw it up a few times,” Welker said. As long as those screw-ups stay on the practice field, I think we can all agree. After the draft this year, NFL.com released their power rankings for the season, and the Broncos came in third, just behind the 49ers at the top spot, and the Seattle Seahawks. ( Don’t mention that to my father, he would never let me live it down.) However, Seattle only bumped the Broncos down a slot because they had the best free agency and draft offseason, according to NFL.com. That is a lot of pressure for Welker, and the entire Broncos team. “Here in Denver, we have high expectations, and people have high expectations for us, (…) we hold ourselves to a higher standard, and we want to play that way,” Welker said. Cheers, Wes. Although you never want to be in your comfort zone, fans hope you find it as soon as they see you step out in orange and blue at Mile High.
