The Steelers are going to be targeting at least one receiver during the 2013 NFL Draft. Tavon Austin of West Virginia and Marquis Goodwin of Texas just jumped onto everyone’s draft boards after running 4.25 forty yard dashes. With the Steelers expected to lose Mike Wallace in free agency it would make sense to go find a speedy receiver to replace him, right? Well, maybe not. Right now the Steelers have three receivers on the roster that should be on the roster at the start of the 2013 season. Those players are Antonio Brown, Emmanuel Sanders, and Jerrico Cotchery. Their average height is on 5’11″ so adding Austin in the draft would move that number to 5’10″. That doesn’t exactly help Ben Roethlisberger who has continued to lobby for a tall receiver that can go get the ball. There are other concerns that need to be accounted for when talking about Austin. Everyone remembers Chris Rainey, who was supposed to be the Steelers next play-maker on offense, the Steelers fifth round pick las...

Steelers First Round Possibility Manti Te’o Talks to Media; Tries to Move Back Up Draft Boards

The Steelers could go a lot of different directions with their first pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. One of those positions is inside linebacker. Last year the Steelers drafted Sean Spence in the third round with the hopes that he would become the starter alongside Lawrence Timmons, but Spence suffered a major knee injury during the pre-season and there is still no time table on when...

Report: Steelers LB Sean Spence Suffered Peroneal Nerve Damage

On Thursday, Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert updated the status of linebacker Sean Spence, the teams third-round draft pick from last April, who suffered a serious knee injury last preseason. During his update Colbert said Spence is doing everything that the doctors and trainers are telling him to do but that there is still no timetable for his return. Colbert said...

Antonio Brown Admits Awkwardness Existed With Mike Wallace Last Season

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Mike Wallace was absent for all of training camp last year due to his unhappiness with his contract situation. During his time away from the team the Steelers gave fellow wide receiver Antonio Brown an extension that included an 8.5 million signing bonus. Brown was asked last Wednesday on 98.7 ESPN Radio New York if there was any awkwardness between...

Change May be Just What the Steelers Need in 2013

There has been a lot of talk about the changes that are coming for the Steelers during the 2013 off-season. Over the next two weeks they will have to become compliant with the NFL salary cap. To do so they will have to make some very tough decisions with multiple players on their roster. The Steelers will also be left with decisions to make on how much cap space to clear if they...

The Steelers will be Forced to Pick and Choose in the Draft; Trading Back for More Picks may be the Best Option

Take a quick look around the internet and there isn’t very much agreement on what the Steelers should do with their first round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. Some fans say inside linebacker should be the pick and others want an outside linebacker. Many fans want the Steelers to find an offensive play-maker in either a receiver or running back; while others just want the Steelers...

Don’t Get too Caught Up with Who the Steelers are Meeting With

According to the multiple sources including NFL Network West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith met with the Steelers for a personal meeting. Now there was a report earlier this off-season that the Steelers wouldn’t shy away from any positions in the NFL draft including quarterback. So if Smith is still on the board at seventeen could he be the Steelers first draft pick in the 2013...

Report: Agent For Willie Colon Says Guard Hasn’t Been Asked To Take Pay Cut

As the days click down to the start of the new league year date of March 12, the name of Pittsburgh Steelers guard Willie Colon will remain a talking point as he is one of a handful players that could possibly be released, restructured, or asked to take a cut in salary prior to the Steelers needing to be cap compliant. Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported on Saturday...

Steelers’ Colbert is in Denial About Locker Room

As is the usual paradigm, general managers from the 32 National Football League teams were forced to sit in front of microphones at the league’s annual scouting combine and answer questions about the current state of their teams. If you think a Mike Tomlin press conference is full of cliches and standard one-liners then you haven’t seen anything yet. Pittsburgh Steelers’ GM...

2012 Grades, Position by Position, Linebackers

For the Steelers’ defense, the rubber has always met the road with the play of the linebackers. There is a great, grand tradition of linebacker play in the Steel City, dating back to Jack Lambert and Jack Ham; through Levon Kirkland, Greg Lloyd, and Kevin Greene; to Joey Porter and James Harrison. Linebacker play has been the heart and soul of the Steelers’ defense. Lawrence...

Grading the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Round-by-Round Value in the 2010 NFL Draft

Where there was so much hubris a year earlier, a dark cloud hung over the Pittsburgh Steelers as they prepared for the 2010 NFL Draft. Just like they did three years earlier, the Steelers flopped as defending champions, missing the playoffs in 2009. The organization was disgraced further when Ben Roethlisberger’s transgressions in Milledgeville, Ga., came to light. Roethlisberger...

Antonio Brown says it’s a bit awkward that he got a contract and Mike Wallace didn’t

Mike Wallace is one of the best free agents in the NFL this offseason, and there are very few people who feel that he will sign a new deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers. As you know, Wallace held out last year before reporting to camp. He is looking for top dollar, and the Steelers may not be willing to give it to him. Pittsburgh was, however, willing to throw a large chunk of cash...

The Pittsburgh Steelers 2013 Draft Could Surprise Some People

When you look at the Pittsburgh Steelers you can see that their biggest needs right now are to upgrade the pass rush, find a receiver to replace Mike Wallace, finding a starting inside linebacker, and finding out who their starting running back is. Most mock drafts have the Steelers taking an outside linebacker or a nose tackle because of how deep the position is in the first round...

Steelers Eye Talented Pair of Playmakers

INDIANAPOLIS – The Steelers are taking an interest in two of the most well-known, albeit underrated, draft prospects here at the NFL Combine.

Report: Steelers To Meet With Texas S Kenny Vaccaro At NFL Combine

The defensive backs are getting their time with media Sunday at the NFL combine and Jim Wexell of Steel City Insider reports via Twitter that Texas safety Kenny Vaccaro is scheduled to have a formal interview tonight with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
