One Buc Place was busy this past weekend with the Bucs holding rookie minicamp. Among the rookies was third round draft pick Mike Glennon who many are calling Josh Freeman’s replacement. But there’s a chance that debate can be put to rest. At least for now. Josh Freeman set team records in passing yards and most touchdowns thrown in a season and in a Buccaneer career during the 2012 season — 4,065 yards, 27 touchdowns, and reached 78 career touchdowns. With those marks, general manager Mark Dominik feels the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is Freeman’s team to lead. “I would say that it is Josh’s football team,” Dominik told Pat Kirwan and Tim Ryan on their NFL Radio show (via JoeBucsFan.com). “Again, he set a lot of Buccaneer records for us last year and he is a good quarterback who got a lot of experience that we are excited about.” “I am excited about having Carl Nicks and Davin Joseph in front of him so that Josh will continue to feel comfortable back in that pocket so he can make more plays. So it is his football team and I am excited to have him on this football team and have him be the leader on that side of the ball.” From another angle, Tampa Tribune’s Ira Kaufman told 98.7 The Fan’s Booger and Rich Monday afternoon that there is no competition between Glennon and Freeman and that the rookie was drafted to backup the fourth year starter out of Kansas State — something that Dominik mentioned here, PewterReport.com also said it here, and I said it the night he was drafted here. It’s fair to have thoughts and opinions on the quarterback situation. The national media appears to have a general consensus on it being a controversy. Granted, Freeman must play well in 2013. And not just well, consistently well. But it won’t be all on him as there were games last season where the offense put up enough points to win and the defense let them down. So before we call this a quarterback controversy, let’s see how the season plays goes. Better yet, let’s see if Glennon is even worth replacing Freeman for. The post What quarterback controversy? This is Freeman’s team. appeared first on The Bay Cave.

  • Agreed, this could be the breakout year for Josh. He certainly has the skills for it. Keep him at the helm.
