Chargers take on the Minnesota Vikings at the Metrodome tonight at 5:00 (PDT). The Chargers head into Minnesota with a 2-0 pre-season record.

What will it take for the Chargers to pull off a third straight win?

The answer this week lies in the Chargers offense. Minnesota has the aid of one of the most experienced and talented pass rushers in the game, Jared Allen. The Chargers main concern as they head into the game is protecting the QB and running the ball efficiently. Though starting Tackle Jared Gaither had returned to practice this last week to rehab, he will not be on the field this week and we will again see un-drafted free agent Mike Harris. He will go head to head with Allen most plays and much of the Chargers offensive success will hinge on Harris' ability to fend him off.

The Chargers will be without the help of QB Philip Rivers and TE Antonio Gates. Coaches have decided that the two should sit out this week to avoid injury.

With Rivers absence, all eyes will be on new starter Charlie Whitehurst to lead the team as he did last week against the Dallas Cowboys. Whitehust faces an experienced Vikings first team defense and will be tested with the pressure they can bring.

Look also for Jarrett Lee to make another appearance since Whitehurst is a starter.

In order to disrupt the pressure, look for Norv Turner to run the ball to the outside more against the Vikings. Trying to pick on the younger secondary of Minnesota.

Defensively, the Chargers will look to mix the calls up, bringing heavy pass rushes to keep second year QB Christian Ponder on the run. The Bolts will need to pay special attention to pro-bowl wide receiver and slot specialist Percy Harvin. If the Chargers give Harvin an inch, he will take a mile as proven before.

Look for the Chargers to play more pass coverage when QB Joe Webb enters the game. Joe Webb is a dual threat QB that can be a problem if given the space to run. They will attempt to take the run away from him by playing zones and hopefully making him throw the ball. The Chargers have a fast LB core and talented DB's playing for second team to cause some turnovers off Joe Webb throws.

Be sure to tune into the game tonight at 5:00 (PDT) to catch your Chargers take on the Vikings. Also, remember to check Twitter for tweets on the game and pictures of the action.

Chargers rookie Ingram leaves with thigh injury

San Diego first-round draft pick Melvin Ingram left the Chargers' preseason game against Minnesota because of a bruised left thigh. The 18th overall draft pick out of South Carolina went down late in the third quarter Friday night while rushing the passer. He crumpled to the turf and was in noticeable pain as he was helped off the field by two trainers. The Chargers announced...

Offensive Line Fantasy Value of the San Diego Chargers

If you look up the definition of the word “underachiever” in the dictionary you will see the San Diego Chargers Football Team with sheepish grins on their faces while shrugging their shoulders.  The Chargers can almost be counted on to struggle off the hop, in the middle or at the end of each season.  Injuries play a big part, but the biggest problem is that you can’t make...

Antonio Gates is the heathliest he’s ever been

AP According to Scott Bair of the North County Times, the Chargers will hold out both quarterback Philip Rivers and tight end Antonio Gates for tonight’s preseason game. Bair wrote; “Given that Gates is as healthy as he’s ever been, the risk of changing that was too great, especially when so many Vikings starters will be playing for an extended period.” If Gates can stay...

Rivers, Gates Will Sit in Week Three Pre-Season Game Vs. Vikings

San Diego Chargers coaches have decided to sit starting QB Philip Rivers and star TE Antonio Gates. This decision is most likely in light of the  two losses of key offensive weapons in two weeks of pre-season play. However, the decision is also two fold. They most likely chose to sit those two particular players not only because they are so important to the offense, but because...

Chargers 12, Vikings 10

Nick Novak's 45-yard field goal as time expired gave the San Diego Chargers a 12-10 victory on Friday over Minnesota, after Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder struggled along with the rest of the starting offense. Nate Kaeding made field goals of 50 and 54 yards for the Chargers (No. 16 in the AP Pro32 rankings). Novak, the token training camp competitor who'll most likely...

Preview: Chargers talented, but many benched

The Chargers are a talented bunch of players that have underperformed at times. We review their top options, some of whom aren’t expected to play Friday.

Chargers top Vikings 12-10 in penalty-filled game

From Christian Ponder's off-target throws for Minnesota to San Diego's depleted offense to a bunch of bungled calls by the replacement officials, this was a preseason game in every way. The Chargers at least went home happy with the way their defense is playing. The Vikings were reminded that their offense isn't ready yet for September. Nick Novak's 45-yard field...

Preseason Pics of the Chargers Girls

Preseason NFL football is upon us.   And as Marv Albert will say,  “we’ve reached extensive garbage time.”  Seriously, pre-season football is nearly as uninteresting as pre-season baseball.   However, you’ve always got to find a little good in everything right?  Of course! And what’s better than what I would consider to be the best cheerleading squad in the entire...
