Former Bears/Bengals running back Cedric Benson, How many of you were caught off guard with the Reggie Wells signing?  How about the Cedric Benson signing?  Me too.  Now for all of us who think we know Ted Thompson, we’d naturally think that in response to the spate of injuries (which is also unusually high enough for a training camp that head coach Mike McCarthy has had to tone down and shorten practices just to keep his players fresh), Thompson would go and sign some young guy we’ve never heard of, probably from a school that we’ve never heard of and also probably with only a few, if any, years of experience in the NFL. The “standard” Ted Thompson MO has so far been low-risk/high reward, meaning that by signing young unknown players, he is minimizing the risk of his investment (i.e. the contract) since young unproven players can be had for much lower costs.  When Thompson hits he gets Tramon Williams, when he doesn’t he gets Maurice Simpkins (who?); either way the Packers can’t re...

Packers Running Backs: Cedric Benson in the 4th Quarter

Fourth-quarter fumbles can turn the Packers low-risk signing of Cedric Benson into a disaster. For a team that doesn’t run the ball much, the Packers sure like to talk about the importance of running the ball. Yes, a good running game is nice to have, but it’s not necessary, especially with a QB like Aaron Rodgers and the Packers talented WRs. It would be nice to see the Packers get...

Benson Expected To Start For Packers

According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Cedric Benson is expected to be the Packers' Week 1 starter at running back.Fantasy Spin:Benson is the healthiest halfback Green Bay has right now so it's not surprising that he has the inside track on the starting job at this point. Benson has quietly racked up three consecutive 1,000 yard seasons. He's unlikely to reach that...

Packers 2012 Training Camp Depth Chart: Week 4

Former Bengals running back Cedric Benson, #32, was the big addition to the Packers roster this past week. As the Green Bay Packers Training Camp unfolds, I am going to do my best to track the players along the depth chart. While things will certainly change over the course of the preseason, this gives us an idea of how the coaches are valuing the players. Please note that this is...

Cedric Benson looking forward to putting “a licking” on the Bengals this week

Getty Images Former Bengals running back Cedric Benson is looking forward to going up against his former team this week when he suits up as a member of the Green Bay Packers. “It’s going to be fun, to say the least,” said Benson per Cincinnati.com.  “It’ll be good just to go against that defense. I’ve seen all those guys coming in, I’ve seen them work together, so...

Packers RB Cedric Benson Ready To 'Put A Licking' On Former Bengals Teams

Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports Benson told Packers reporters this about his return to Cincinnati: “It’s going to be fun, to say the least. It’ll be good just to go against that defense. I’ve seen all those guys coming in, I’ve seen them work together, so it’ll be fun to put a licking on them.” Both Benson and head coach Marvin Lewis said there was no ill will...

Benson Crashing Quarterbacks' Party

When he stepped on the practice field on Sunday, Cedric Benson had six practices and two preseason games to get ready for the regular season. To get ready, Benson has joined the quarterbacks' meetings. That and more from Monday at Ray Nitschke Field.

Benson’s Only Incentive Is To Win

Veteran running back Cedric Benson rushed for 1,067 yards last season Cedric Benson signed a one-year contract worth the veteran’s minimum ($825,000) earlier in the week. That’s not surprising. A 29-year-old running back with baggage isn’t going to command much coin in today’s NFL. The surprise is that the deal includes no incentives. But after listening to what the former...

Packers RB Cedric Benson In Line For A Week One Start?

Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel writes that Cedric Benson will probably be the Packers’ starting running back for their Week 1 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers. Reports from earlier in the day suggested that James Starks will likely miss a few more weeks with a turf toe injury and Alex Green hasn’t done enough to secure the position. Green Bay’s coaching...

Packers RB Cedric Benson looking to run over Bengals on Thursday

One of the players that Players View has followed very closely this year is Packers running back Cedric Benson. As he moved away from the Bengals and into free agency it took longer than we projected for him to find a home but once he did, it looks like he found one that will stick. Packers – Browns & Preseason Perspectives

Packers Preseason Perspectives There is no getting around the fact that last week’s Packers – Browns game was ugly (for the Packers). Yes the Browns played their starters much longer than the Packers did, and yes the Packers had 18 players out with injuries, so excuses are readily available.  But the bottom line is, the Packers team on the field that night, did not look like...

T-Jack Would Be A Good Pickup For Packers

Seattle’s Tavaris Jackson would be a good backup quarterback for the Packers Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy have given no indication that they’re looking to replace Graham Harrell as the team’s backup quarterback, but that isn’t going to stop me from speculating on possible replacements. The pickings are very slim, but here are three players who I feel would upgrade the position...

Packers WR Greg Jennings, RB Cedric Benson Practice In Pads

Packers wide receiver Greg Jennings took to the team's practice field in pads Sunday for the first time since suffering a concussion on Aug. 3, according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette. Recently signed running back Cedric Benson also suited up for his first practice with the Packers in pads as well, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported. Coach Mike McCarthy hinted Friday that...
