The New England Patriots will have two draft picks in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft.  The first pick will be the number 17 pick which they received from the New Orleans Saints and the second will be the number 31 pick which is their own.  There are three positions that the Patriots will be focusing on this offseason; wide receiver, defensive end, and defensive back.  In all three positions, the decision will be whether to draft a top prospect or go after one of the top free agents. The one problem for the Patriots offense is at the wide receiver position.  If the Patriots re-sign Wes Welker and Deion Branch, they are still small at that position and without a real deep theat.  There are a few free agents that fit that mold that the Patriots could go after.  Vincent Jackson and Reggie Wayne are both veterans who could be good fits for the Patriots.  Another veteran who would be a good fit is Brandon Lloyd who, it is rumored, would like a reunion with the Patriots new offens...

New England Patriots: Most Pressing Offseason Needs

A 13-3 regular season record, home-field advantage through the AFC Playoffs and an appearance in Super Bowl XLVI makes the 2011 season look on the surface like a big success for the New England Patriots, but the Super Bowl loss to the New York Giants, and other times during the season, showed the team has some major shortcomings that need to be addressed before too long. It's...

Pats by position: The offensive line

With the Patriots season coming to an end on Sunday, it's time to take a look back at the team and break down their performance by position. We'll start up front this week with the offensive linemen. The group played well for most of the season, allowing Tom Brady to be sacked only 32 times, good for ninth in the NFL. New England was in the middle of the pack when it comes...

Patriots coach Bill Belichick plays Pebble Beach, gets Bama-style draft advice

Patriots coach Bill Belichick spent yesterday playing Pebble Beach as part of a pro-am, partnering with old buddy Nick Saban from Alabama. Word was Belichick shot in the 90s. What he didn’t do was talk football publicly. ESPN’s Gene Wojciechowski tried, but all Belichick would say was, “I’m just out here having fun.” Belichick didn’t say anything...

Jalen Rose: Rob Gronkowski was "white boy wasted"

It's been well-documented that Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski had himself a good time after his team lost the Super Bowl Sunday. Now we know why Gronkowski’s agent Drew Rosenhaus said that he wouldn’t have played if last week’s game wasn’t the Super Bowl. Gronkowski’s injured ankle limited him to two receptions...

Potential Patriots: Offensive Line

A year ago, the Patriots shocked draft analysts and fans alike with the selection of Nate Solder with the 17th overall pick. The team then made a shrewd move in the fifth round and took the mammoth Marcus Cannon from TCU. Once thought to be a second-rounder, Cannon fell because of medical concerns when he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. Fortunately for the Pats, both rookies...
