As the league appears to be in the final stages of a new Collective Bargaining Agreement, teams are getting ready to condense months of free agency strategy into a few days of spending -- or not spending. First the league must determine the salary cap parameter for 2011, which has been reported at around $120 million. There's still a chance, as National Football Post's Aaron Wilson pointed out today, that 2011 will be an uncapped year.
Either way, vice president of player personnel Rick Spielman and vice president of football operations Rob Brzezinski, the team's salary cap guru, must make quick, decisive deals with their own free agents or on the open market.
I've seen a few mentions about the Vikings' potential cap status in recent days, both from ESPN. In a helpful list of all 32 NFL teams and their estimated salary cap position, ESPN.com blogger Pat Yasinskas writes the Vikings are tied to $108.4 million worth of salary in 2011.
