While We’re Waiting serves as the early morning gathering of WFNY-esque information for your viewing pleasure. Have something you think we should see? Send it to our tips email at tips@waitingfornextyear.com. “With four games left to play, the Browns are notmathematically eliminated from the playoffs yet!!! Let me say right off the bat that I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT THE BROWNS WILL MAKE THE PLAYOFFS. However, since it is still technically possible, let’s break it down real quick. First of all, the Browns would need to run the table and finish 8-8, which is a nearly impossible feat. So eight wins is the magic number that we need to keep in mind here. In the AFC there are five teams that have the inside track on the postseason: Patriots (9-3), Ravens (9-3), Texans (11-1), Broncos (10-3) and Colts (8-4). That leaves one spot left for the Browns.” [Flack/Bleacher Report] —- “Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid has been one of the most successful coaches in the NFL over the last decade.  However, it appears that his time in Philadelphia may be coming to an end.  Team owner Jeff Lurie has gone on record to say that improvements are needed and that “8-8 is unacceptable.”  The Eagles are currently 3-9 and riding an eight-game losing streak. In a recent blog post, I unveiled my 2012 edition of the “Can I see you in my office?” awards, better known as my annual “Coachey” awards.  This is when I roll out my list of NFL coaches, across three categories, who could be facing the ax.  This year’s headlining coach is Andy Reid. Since the Browns returned to the NFL in 1999, they have had six different head coaches, five different general managers and one lone playoff appearance.  With new owner Jimmy Haslam at the helm, the franchise appears to be revamping from the top down.  Haslam has appointed former Eagles team president Joe Banner as the new CEO, joining former Eagles player personnel executive and current Browns GM Tom Heckert.” [Walt J./Bleacher Report] —- Jason Cole of Yahoo Sports ranks the Browns as the number 2 destination for Eagles quarterback Mike Vick. “2. Cleveland Browns – The key to this possible match is that former Eagles president Joe Banner is now running the show for the Browns. Banner is a Vick fan. Moreover, Banner is, at best, lukewarm on the prospects of 29-year-old rookie starter Brandon Weeden developing into a star quarterback. In the bigger picture, the Browns have a great offensive line, a budding star running back in Trent Richardson and a pair of interesting young wide receivers (Josh Gordon and Greg Little). That’s a strong nucleus in which to bring Vick, although it’s also a layup drill for sarcastic media members who will point out that Vick will have joined the Dawg Pound.” [Cole/Yahoo Sports] —- A positive article on the tragic Jovan Belcher situation. “The family of Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt, Kansas City players and coaches have already donated to the trust fund, the team announced in a statement Friday morning. “Zoey will always be a part of the Chiefs family, and we hope that this trust will help to ensure she has the resources necessary as she grows up,” Hunt said in a statement. The Chiefs started discussing raising money to support Zoey Belcher as early as Saturday evening. Players on Friday were happy to so quickly be able to follow through on those plans.” [Jones/USA Today]
