Sunday’s 65-play controlled scrimmage provided some answers for coach Pete Carroll and his staff, but the day’s best performance came from someone unlikely to be in the starting lineup come September 12. Backup QB Charlie Whitehurst ran with the first team while starter Matt Hasselbeck was sidelined a sore hamstring and fired two touchdowns to TE Chris Baker and WR Mike Williams that accounted for the only visits to the end zone. Whitehurst also made two impressive throws to WR Deon Butler and rookie wideout Golden Tate which left the Husky Stadium crowd of over 6,000 thrilled. Whitehurst’s scoring toss to Williams on the scrimmage’s last play was a 4-yard slant over the middle that could be a precursor of things to come with the Seahawks’ red zone attack. The 6′5, 235-pound Williams had no problem pulling in the ball as he crossed the goal line, further lending to the premise the former first-rounder will be a vital part of the team’s plans...
