Found June 16, 2012 on The Penalty Flag:
Whitney Mercilus could find his way into the starting lineup for the Houston Texans after an injury to Brooks Reed and recording a team-high 3½ sacks in preseason. While he might not be Mario Williams, he is the replacement.Sure, comparing Mercilus to Williams is asinine and ridiculous, but the Texans may not need a Mario Williams to be one of the best defenses in the league. Afterall, Williams was injured for the last 13 of 18 games played in 2011 and wasn't on the field.

Alan Ball: Under the Rader

The Houston Texans recently signed unrestricted free agent Alan Ball to the roster and initially most fans’ first impressions were he must be Jason Allen’s (former Texans cornerback) replacement. Alan Ball is one of Defensive Coordinator Wade Phillips’ guys he drafted while he was in Dallas. Ball has an impressive combination of size and speed at 6’2 197 lbs with 4.48 speed...

Kubiak finally growing into his own as coach

We are witnessing a transformation here in Houston. Texans coach Gary Kubiak has always had this aw-shucksy anti-heroic thing about him. He has always seemed sort of like a boy in some black-and-white sitcom that just grew older but remained a light shade of gray. He had those wispy shocks of hair that made it look like he just got off a jet ski, and this way of looking like he...

Houston Texans give extensions to HC Gary Kubiak, GM Rick Smith

In a move anticipated for over a month now, the Houston Texans and owner Bob McNair have extended the contracts of both head coach Gary Kubiak and general manager Rick Smith. The deals are coming on the heels off both the franchise’s first playoff appearance and playoff victory in 2011. Stability is the word of the day in Houston, as Kubiak’s extension carries him through the...

2012 Post Draft Winners/Losers: Houston Texans

The Texans surprised by going defense with Whitney Mercilus in the first round. They had bigger needs, like a play maker at wide receiver, but apparently they were looking to replace Mario Williams and/or they went with their highest ranked player on the board. Mercilus has impressive pass rush skills, but the Texans passed some talented pass catching talent and that may hurt later on.

Mike Sims Walker participated in Texans’ minicamp

Mike Sims Walker worked out with the Texans late last month as they need veteran receiver help with their #3 through #5 wide receivers having a combined 0 career catches. He was not signed, but they remained interested. This week MSW participated in the Texans’ minicamp, giving the Texans more of a chance to see what the 27 year old receiver had. He caught 63 passes for 869 yards...

Texans extend Head Coach Gary Kubiak and GM Rick Smith

With both heading into the final years of their respective contracts, the Texans have extended both Head Coach Gary Kubiak and GM Rick Smith, through 2014 and 2016 respectively. Both have, at various times in their tenure in Houston, had people call for them to be fired as the Texans were missing the playoffs every season and perennially underachieving. However, after the Texans...

The Giving Mood: Texans Mini-Camp

Here are some notes from the Texans last day of Mini-Camp sessions.   - Wade Phillips via his twitter account praised the work the young players put in these last few days at mini-camp.
