I’m sure plenty of folks outside of Denver heard the news tonight that the Raiders had hired Dennis Allen to be their new head coach and thought, “Who?”
Just a year ago many Broncos fans were wondering the same thing when John Fox hired Allen to be Denver’s defensive coordinator.
I figured, then, it would be a good time to repost this story I wrote last fall about Allen, his background and his coaching philosophy. Allen is big on discipline, which isn’t a word you normally associate with the Raiders. I have to imagine Allen brought that up quite a bit in his interviews with new Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie.
“His thing is discipline, discipline, discipline. Do everything right, all the time, and never let up,” Broncos cornerback Andre’ Goodman told me for the story, which ran at the start of the 2011 season.
