The Arizona Cardinals made a signing on Tuesday, inking free agent quarterback Richard Bartel to a contract. Rookie Max Hall, who dislocated his shoulder in a loss to St. Louis on Sunday was placed on the injured reserve list, meaning he’ll miss the rest of the season.
Normally, nobody would care that the Cards are adding a player in week 14 of the season. But there’s a real chance that Bartel may play–even start on Sunday against the Denver Broncos.
The other two quarterbacks on the Cardinals’ roster don’t exactly inspire confidence. Derek Anderson is, well, Derek Anderson (and he’s got a concussion) and rookie John Skelton got his first taste of NFL regular season action in mop-up duty against the Rams. Arizona head coach Ken Whisenhunt declared him nowhere near ready to play in the NFL, which sadly, isn’t enough to necessarily keep him on the sidelines.
